St. Thomas More was devoted to his Catholic faith and lived a life of simplicity, poverty, and fraternity with everyone and all of creation. With a pervasive sense of joy in the Lord, he devoted himself to prayer and to sharing the good news of the Gospel by both word and example. STM students live as Models of Christ, demonstrating faith in action through integrity, compassion, and a commitment to truth, following the example of St. Thomas More’s unwavering moral courage.
St. Thomas More graduates:
- Model Christ by being open to God’s will in their lives.
- Love, serve, and forgive others while promoting peace and solidarity.
- Cultivate their conscience through consistent, honest self-reflection and prayer.
Grow in knowledge of the Catholic faith and participate in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church.
- Develop a fuller understanding for Catholicism while respecting the religions of others.
Through a ministry that preaches inclusion and openness, St. Thomas More High School strives to create a welcoming, supportive environment that cares for the entire person. Providing an immersive experience of faith that touches all aspects of our students’ lives, we nurture each area of young people’s development — intellectual, spiritual, and personal.
Tradition
For over 150 years, STM and its predecessor schools have provided students with a compassionate and transformative Catholic education that prepares them for lasting success in the next stages of their lives. Guided by this experience and tradition, St. Thomas More ensures that God’s presence exists universally throughout the school, from within the classroom and beyond. All STM students take four years of theology, advancing their knowledge of the Catholic faith and other religions. Students also study the many intersections between theology and other academic subjects, helping them better understand the role of faith and spirituality in contemporary society.
Ministry
Today’s teenagers live busy lives full of adventure, exploration, and sometimes conflict. Students often need guidance to understand where God fits in their world. Rather than preaching abstract concepts, STM’s faith formation focuses on the issues that directly affect our students and their families, emphasizing relatability while providing students with the opportunity to gain experience with their own spirituality. Each week, STM’s chaplain leads a morning Mass and offers adoration for students, parents, faculty, and alumni. STM also holds monthly all-school Masses, which often incorporate special celebrations and religious holidays. As the entire school community follows the liturgical calendar, the sacrament of Reconciliation is offered during Advent and Lent. All students can live their faith through frequent robust service opportunities both on and off campus.
Retreats
STM students nourish their faith development through experiential retreats, participating in at least one per year to help them grow spiritually from the perspectives and experiences that can only be gained outside of high school. Campus Ministry, Latino Student Organization, and other student groups also sponsor international retreat and mission opportunities.
