St. Thomas More High School is excited to announce the creation of MORE Leadership. This program will consist of the new Health & Leadership class, bi-monthly leadership workshops, and the MORE Leadership Council.

The goal of the program is to build hardworking, resilient leaders who demonstrate success in all aspects of their lives while encouraging and setting an example for their peers.

“Leadership is a skill, and skills need to be taught, practiced, and learned,” said Jimmy Litscher (TM ’06), who will teach the Health & Leadership class and coordinate the MORE Leadership program. “If we want our school to have better leaders, we can’t just expect this skill to happen without actually teaching and learning how to be leaders. That is why we are so excited about our MORE Leadership program because it is going to provide our entire school with opportunities to learn, grow, and develop into better leaders, and these leadership skills can then be applied in all areas of our lives.”

Starting next school year, students enrolled in health classes will learn about leadership as a part of the course curriculum. In Health & Leadership class, students will continue to analyze, discuss, and learn about adolescent health issues, but they will also be taught leadership theory, concepts, and skills aligned with the school’s mission to develop our students into better leaders.

Leadership workshops will be offered two times per month during the school’s Enrichment Period; all students will be required to attend at least two workshops a semester. Workshop sessions will expand on lessons from the Health & Leadership course while allowing for more practical application of what students learned in the classroom.

This spring, students nominated by teachers, coaches, and staff will come together to form the MORE Leadership Council. The purpose of this council is to provide a direct connection between the Leadership Coordinator and the student body. Council members will analyze and evaluate MORE Leadership, discussing ways to improve the program. Council members will also lead MORE Leadership workshops and help develop additional leadership opportunities to supplement MORE Leadership.

“We are excited to get MORE Leadership started here at STM,” said Dean of Students Reyes Perez (STM ’15). “STM has awesome kids, and this program will be an outlet for them to tap into the leadership skills we already know they have but might not know how to use.”

If you have any questions about MORE Leadership, please contact program coordinator Jimmy Litscher (TM ’06) at litscherj@tmore.org or 414-481-8370 x326.
