Lilliana Haug
From the start, I knew that I wanted to focus on nature, it’s something that always inspired me regarding my art. This semester, I’ve been able to use nature in my work and figure out how I want to use it and show my voice. The concept of human connection to nature has been a big inspiration in developing my artistic style. I started to brainstorm different ways I could create art that combined humans and nature. I noticed that all my art contained a sense of creepiness and eeriness, so began my journey of combing the two, and created works that have amore surrealistic, uneasy composition.
This semester I’ve gotten to experiment with different media such as oil pastel, charcoal, pen, and colored pencil. My favorite by far has been working with oil and acrylic paint. I was really drawn to painting because it made it easier for me to incorporate vibrant colors and rhythmic shapes in my art. Normally, I would stray from painting human qualities and features, but as I began to develop my art style, I realized that was something I loved to do. Combining human qualities with features in nature helped in developing a creepy sense in my art which is where I felt I could create my best and most imaginative art. I find that when I am creating new artworks, I like to create a story in my mind about what the art piece represents. Sometimes, the intent tends to form after I’ve made my artwork as well. When people see my art, I hope to convey to them the sense of weirdness or creepiness that I strive to create in my art.
