Elizabeth Orozco
My name is Elizabeth Orozco. I'm a mixed-media artist. I specialize in3D miniature worlds. I create different realities using recycled and earth-friendly materials. I continually explore using clay, wood, cardboard, and paper to create other realities. My inspiration is the love I have from reading books and being able to escape reality through the stories. This semester, I learned to push my boundaries with my art as I always struggled to finish a project. I pushed my boundaries by trying different media I had barely ever used. Before this semester, I felt that my imagination had no place in my life. This semester allowed me to explore expressing my brain movies. My brain movies are dear to me as they have been an escape from reality when times were hard. I like my pieces to give the same comfort I experience when escaping from reality.
My technique is unique as it strictly creates different images of emotions while reading literature. My process starts when reading; usually an image comes to mind and I rough sketch different angles of my mental image. I typically see small details or settings within the book. At the end of the book, I go back to my sketchbook and plan what I will be using and how I will be using it. I enjoy exploring various media I have never used before. It gives a realistic and emotional tide to the miniature world.
In the beginning of the semester, it is all up to us to make all the decisions on what we want to work on and what to use. This was overwhelming as the sky is the limit, I as an artist had to put restrictions on myself when I always had everything planned for me. As an artist I was making decisions that had to be perfect. I quickly learned that mistakes are necessary to grow. My art pieces aren't meant to be perfect there meant to be a part of me and I am far from perfect. This semester has taught me patience and independence. Moreover, art is an extension of the artist, and it is far from perfect. I plan to continue creating miniature worlds using different media and exploring different realities.
