Herb Kohl Foundation Names STM’s Jimmy Litscher Among State’s Top Teachers
Awards fellowship prize to varsity football coach and 2006 alumnus for exceptional dedication and leadership.
MILWAUKEE, MAR. 26, 2026 – Recognizing what so many St. Thomas More students and community members already know, the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Thursday named head football coach and health teacher Jimmy Litscher (TM ‘06) a recipient of the 2026 Teacher Fellowship award, which honors exceptional Wisconsin teachers.
The foundation rigorously reviewed more than 1,200 applications and selected Litscher among the top 100 teachers in the entire state. These Teacher Fellowship recipients are awarded a cash prize. STM will also receive a $6,000 grant from the foundation to support school initiatives.
STM President John Hoch (TM ‘87) celebrated Litscher’s massive impact on school culture. “We were very fortunate to hire Jimmy in 2012. Since then, he has helped to transform our fitness programming at the school into a gem that operates at full capacity daily with kids eager to be around him.” Hoch said. “Beyond his deep knowledge for improving speed, strength, and skill, students gravitate to his enthusiasm and positivity. Jimmy has all the traits you want to have in a role model for young people.”
Litscher also serves as coordinator of STM’s MORE Leadership initiative, a schoolwide curriculum he helped create implemented across all homerooms each week. The model prepares students to embody the principles of St. Thomas More as Models of Christ, Ongoing Learners, Resilient Leaders, and Engaged in Community (MORE).

About the Herb Kohl Teacher Fellowship
Each year, 100 educators are selected as Herb Kohl Fellowship recipients. Each educator receives a one-time $6,000 award and their respective school receives a matching grant of an additional $6000 to enhance learning. A full list of the 2026 award recipients can be found at KohlEducation.org.
