Looking Back: The Mallum Family

St. Thomas More means many things to us. It means meeting lifelong friends and even where we met each other (shoutout to high school sweethearts who are still married after 23 years and counting). It means legacy and having three generations of family attending, from grandparents, parents, siblings, and countless cousins.

It means being part of a team, figuratively and literally! We both participated in multiple sports and felt all the things that go with that: competition, leadership, pressure situations, victories, heartbreaking losses, dedication, and camaraderie—all the things that help make you a valued employee in the workplace. It means igniting my spark to become a teacher because of the amazing staff that not only taught us the required curriculum but also actually cared about us and truly made an effort to authentically get to know us.

Because of the teachers like Ms. Cox, Mr. Florek, Mr. Mikula, Ms. Cunningham, and many more, we both have felt connected to St. Thomas More all these many, many years, so much so that we sent our oldest daughter, Ellie, to St. Thomas More! Watching her grow these past four years here has made our hearts so happy! She experienced all of the same things we have: the friends, the legacy, being an athlete, and most importantly, the education! She recently graduated and will be heading out to Arkansas State University this fall. St. Thomas More has more than prepared her for this exciting yet unnerving journey to adulthood!

And because St. Thomas More can’t get rid of us that easily, our son Griffin has just started his freshman year at STM.

What “More” could two alumni parents ask for?

St. Thomas More is a Catholic, coeducational high school that inspires students to embrace the values of our Patron Saint by becoming men and women for all seasons. Rooted in Christ and the Catholic tradition, the school community embodies the principles of Christian discipleship, service to others, and academic excellence.
