A Letter from Joel Tomski

My name is Joel Tomski, and I am excited to join the mathematics department for the spring semester.
Greetings, STM!

My name is Joel Tomski, and I am excited to join the mathematics department for the spring semester.

Before coming to STM, I spent 25 years in actuarial programming at Northwestern Mutual. In that role, I was responsible for rates and values routines used to calculate insurance premiums and dividends.

In addition to my experience in the business world, I have also spent time working with students both in the classroom and in athletics. I have taught math, computer science, and economics at multiple high schools, coached high school basketball, baseball, and cross country, coached soccer and basketball at St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, and officiated youth and high school basketball. I also taught math at the Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida, educating Navy officers and enlisted personnel training to operate nuclear-powered submarines and surface ships.

I have a Master of Science in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Arts in applied economics from the University of Central Florida. I am also a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater graduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics.

I am the proud parent of five STM alumni, and my wife, Sharon, taught engineering and math at the school from 2004 to 2017. I am an altar server and catechist in the Catholic Community of Waukesha. I enjoy biking and working out at Planet Fitness, and I am a big fan of the Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Whitewater Warhawks (and, of course, the Cavaliers).

I am excited to return to the classroom at a school that has given so much to my family. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at tomskij@tmore.org.

Sincerely,

Joel Tomski
