December 20, 2023: St. Thomas More theology teacher Dr. Beth Roeder will present at the National Catholic Educational Association’s annual convention, the largest private-education association gathering in the nation. The convention will take place in Pittsburgh, PA, from April 2 to 4.

Dr. Roeder’s presentation will examine the topic of Catholic Spirituality. Catholic Spirituality encompasses the many ways that Catholics utilize prayer and action to live out their Baptismal vows.

By defining spirituality, one is able to connect the call to holiness with an internal conversion that is revealed in external ways,” Dr. Roeder said. “It is in the sacraments, saints, scripture, and tradition that Catholic Spirituality finds one committed to God’s will using one’s own unique gifts and talents.

Dr. Roeder joined the St. Thomas More theology department in 2022. She currently teaches Spirituality and Church History & Tradition.

Before coming to St. Thomas More, Dr. Roeder held multiple positions related to Christian discipleship, education, and youth development. She has worked as a director of religious education, pastoral associate, and youth minister for local parishes and has served as chaplain for a nursing home and a fire department.

My favorite quote is found in Micah 6:8: You have been told, O mortal, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God’,” Dr. Roeder continued. “It is through dedication and enhancing my spirituality that I can live this scripture verse out.

Dr. Roeder earned her Doctor of Ministry from South University with a focus on chaplaincy, her master’s in scripture from Sacred Heart School of Theology, and her bachelor’s in religious studies from Cardinal Stritch University. She and her husband, Richard, have three children and two grandchildren. They are members of St. Louis Parish in Caledonia.
