Saint Thomas More High School Soccer Mission Statement
The mission of the Saint Thomas More High School Soccer Program is to develop young men who hold themselves accountable on the various tiers of life. The first tier requires all players to be academically sound and pursue the future of their choice after graduation. The second tier demands all players to possess integrity of the utmost degree in the social, academic, and athletic spheres. The final tier calls for players to compete at the highest level and sustain the passion and determination to succeed on the soccer pitch.
In addition, our mission as players and coaches is to create and sustain a positive and reliable team chemistry that will not only allow for the players to compete collectively and individually, but that also is sustainable during difficult and challenging obstacles. As a team we will never lower our heads when the game doesn’t go our way. Rather, we will keep our heads high and help one another learn from our mistakes. The team is more important than the individual, but if an individual player struggles academically, socially, or athletically, the team strives to help that individual to succeed. We are a team that is proud of our teammate’s individual achievements, not jealous, and we understand that each individual has a significant role as we strive toward success. In the end, the Saint Thomas More High School Soccer program is a family that supports one another on and off the field. Together, we represent the tradition of Saint Thomas More High School and all those who have played before us, and all those that will play after us.
Whether it is on the field or in the classroom, we follow our motto:
NO EXCUSES. NO QUITTING. ONLY DETERMINATION, RESPECT, AND ABOVE ALL ELSE BROTHERHOOD!

The Expectations of the Cavalier Soccer Conditioning and Strength Program
The off-season strength and conditioning program requires consistent discipline from those players who desire to play at an elite, varsity level. This program is not to be done half-heartedly, but rather players are encouraged to do this program 3-days week while alternating the 2 different workout routines. Players will take a preliminary max-test at the beginning of the off-season workout. Each player will be working toward a prescribed goal to achieve at tryouts. Then, players will record their progress throughout the entire off-season until the week of tryouts. On the first day of tryouts, varsity player prospects will take their max-test, and this test will be used in conjunction with the player game evaluations.
In addition, players are encouraged to run 2-3 miles in between lift days. Players need to time how long it takes for them to complete the running. This will help the players to better gauge their endurance and ability to run the Cooper Test, a 2-mile run under 12 minutes.
This off-season program starts Monday, June 7 and will end Friday, August 6. Those players who wish to play at the varsity level need to take this off-season program seriously. At the end of each June and July, players are to mail their workout sheets to Coach Dineen at Saint Thomas More. More importantly, when tryouts arrive, it will be very easy to distinguish between those players who trained in the off-season and those who sat on the couch.
Finally, there is a comprehensive and overall St. Thomas More Strength and Conditioning Program being held throughout the summer. Players are encouraged to attend these workouts and do the soccer exercises provided. I plan on attending the morning sessions and would like all players to attend the workouts. If you have any questions, please email me at my summer address, gunnerdineen@gmail.com. See the link below for the summer strength and conditioning program.
