Remember to see your Guidance Counselor for up-to-date information and requirements of any college you are thinking about attending.

Approximately 76% of Saint Thomas More High School graduates go on to a four-year college degree program; another 21% pursue a two-year-or-less program.  To help you decide what courses to take now, especially if you decide to go to college, here are some general guidelines:

1.)  Take as much MATHEMATICS as possible.  In most colleges, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 are required for admission.  Students considering engineering should also have Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and a fourth year of math.  Four years of math is necessary for a degree in business.

2.)  Take as much SCIENCE as possible.  For engineering, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, and physical therapy, chemistry and physics are extremely important.  A course in biology is also needed for the last three fields mentioned above.

3.)  Most of the college students say they benefited from courses in English composition.  All levels of English include this preparation.

4.)  Having two years of a single world language is strongly recommended and is required at some colleges.

5.)  Art and Music are not required but can "round out" a student course selection.  Also, it gives the student an opportunity to express feelings in a creative form and thus may give the student a true sense of accomplishment.  Students thinking about architecture as a career should have art to learn free hand drawing.  One semester of fine arts is required for graduation from Saint Thomas More High School.
