STM Legacy Scholarship

With the increase in media attention surrounding Saint Thomas More High School over the past few years, our enrollment has begun an upward climb once again.  Unfortunately, not all of the prospective families that wish to attend STM are able to do so, primarily for financial reasons.  Although STM distributes a substantial amount of financial aid to needy and interested families, we are simply not able to meet 100% of the need.  Therefore, some interested families are forced to look elsewhere for a high school they can more readily afford.

With the interests of our prospective families and students in mind, STM created the Legacy Scholarship in 2007.  The Legacy Scholarship, which was dreamt up by former STM administrators Kevin Quinlan and Gregg Trojanowski DB 61, is a $3,000-per year scholarship awarded to qualifying sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of our alumni.  All of our predecessor schools, including St. Mary's Academy, are qualifying schools for this scholarship.  We feel that this scholarship will make STM more affordable for the next of kin of our alumni, and we are very eager to help those who have helped make STM what it is today.

STM President Robert C. Pauly and 2008-2009 Legacy Scholarship recipients

The sole fund raising event that sustains the Legacy Scholarship is our annual Thomas More Open (TMO) golf event.  Over the years, the TMO has provided capital for STM's general scholarship fund, and has done so admirably.  By funding the Legacy Scholarship, however, STM decided to step up its efforts to ensure that as many interested students as possible could receive this scholarship.  At $3,000 per year, the number of Legacy Scholarships awarded annually is only as high as the net revenue from the event.  For instance, if the TMO nets $9,000 one year, then three scholarships will be given out the following year.

Do you know someone who might qualify?  Would you like to apply for your son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter?  If so, apply today!

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for a Legacy Scholarship, a current or incoming student must meet the following criteria:

  • Successful acceptance to or current enrollment at Saint Thomas High School
  • Must be the son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of a Saint Thomas More alum or an alum from one of our predecessor schools
  • Eligible predecessor schools include St. Francis Minor Seminary, Don Bosco High School, Pio Nono High School, Thomas More High School, and St. Mary's Academy
  • The household income of the home that the student comes from must exceed $45,000

Scholarship Benefits

If a student meets the aforementioned criteria, they will receive:

  • $3,000 per year for as long as they are enrolled at Saint Thomas More High School, depending upon both the availability of funds from the TMO and the adherence by the student to the scholarship criteria and stipulations

Scholarship Criteria

In order to maintain the Legacy Scholarship, the following criteria must be met:

  • Must maintain a "B-" cumulative grade point average (2.65)
  • Must be involved in at least one extra curricular activity per academic year
  • Must not be put on  academic or disciplinary probation at any point during their high school career

If any of the aforementioned terms are violated, the agreement will become null and void.  Once a student is removed from the Legacy Scholarship, he or se will not be eligible to regain it.

Important Note: Since the number of scholarships is dependent upon the success of the TMO, we cannot guarantee the same number of scholarships each year, and there is the possibility that we will not be able to offer the scholarships the following year to one or more of the previous year's scholarship recipients.

Apply for the Legacy Scholarship Today!

If you have read through this article and you feel that your son/daughter/grandson/granddaughter meets the aforementioned criteria, then please feel free to apply today!  You can only apply for the Legacy Scholarship online, so you will have to fill out the electronic form at the bottom of this page.

Because these cannot be put on the electronic application form, all applicants must submit the following to STM:

  • A faxed copy of your families' latest IRS tax return to verify household income
  • A essay of no more than 500 words written by the student applicant entitled, "Why I Want to Attend STM".  Essays must be 12-point font, double-spaced, and will be judged based upon creativity, proper use of grammar and sentence structure, and on the perceived desire of the applicant to attend Saint Thomas More High School

Please fax all tax returns to: 414-481-3382 attn: Legacy Scholarship
Please email all essays to Todd Sobotka TM 97, CEO at tsobotka@tmore.org
